Job Description

Corporate Environmental Risk Management (CERM) is hiring an Instrument Man in Atlanta, GA. Responsibilities include operating survey instruments, performing COGO functions, making field notes, and marking measurement points. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, with 2 years of related experience preferred. A valid Georgia Driver’s License is required. The role involves physical activity and exposure to outdoor conditions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Operate survey instruments virtually every day with little or no supervision, while striving to increase speed and accuracy
• Perform Coordinate Geometry (COGO) functions such as inverse, resection, stake a line, translate and rotate coordinates in the field
• Make field book notes and sketches of data gathered at job site
• Call out reading or writes station number and reading in notebook
• Mark points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other identifying mark
• Measure distance between survey points with steel tape, cloth tape or electronic instruments
• Mark measuring points with keel (marking crayon), paint sticks, scratches, tacks, or stakes
• Place stakes at designated points and drives them into ground at specified elevation
• Cut and clears brush and trees from line of survey

Perform other duties as directed by Crew Chief and/or professional surveyor

Language Skills:
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
• Ability to write clear, accurate notes of conditions and measurements of data gathered in the field
• Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

Mathematical Skills:
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

Reasoning Ability:
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Required Experience

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:
• High school diploma/General Equivalency Diploma(GED)
• 2 years of related experience and/or training

Preferred Education and Experience:
• Associates Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school

LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:
• Valid Georgia Driver’s License and maintain a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets company policy standards
• Certified Survey Technician Level II preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Frequently required to stand and talk or hear
• Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel or crouch
• Occasionally required to sit
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions
• May occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat
