About the position

The Hydrologist Specialist position at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources focuses on the protection and management of public waters in Minnesota. This role involves updating the Public Waters Inventory (PWI), conducting technical reviews, and supporting public participation in water management activities. The position is essential for ensuring compliance with water management policies and involves field visits and data collection to inform regulatory decisions.

Responsibilities
• Conduct technical review of lakes, wetlands, and watercourses to identify needed corrections to the Public Waters Inventory (PWI).

• Participate and support public participation in the Public Waters Inventory (PWI) Update process.
,
• Finalize updates to the Public Waters Inventory (PWI).
,
• Conduct regional public waters regulatory and management responsibilities and tasks as assigned.

Requirements
• Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field such as Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, or related major.

• Fundamental knowledge and understanding of hydrology, geology, hydraulics, and natural resource management.
,
• Experience in geographic information system software analysis and display.
,
• Knowledge of laws, rules, and policies guiding water management programs.
,
• Ability to establish effective working relationships and provide training to government officials and the public.
,
• Ability to evaluate technical reports and provide critical reviews.

Nice-to-haves
• Advanced degree in a relevant field such as Civil Engineering or Hydrology.
