This position is responsible for carrying out complex scientific- and engineering-based technical analyses and investigations in support of the management of water resources in the Pecos River Basin. The purpose of this role is to ensure New Mexico's compliance with the 1948 Pecos River Compact, the 1987 and 1988 U.S. Supreme Court Decrees, and the 2003 Pecos Settlement Agreement.

Duties and Responsibilities
">
• Collect and assess data related to water resources in the Pecos River Basin;
• Manage current water resources projects;
• Work with partners in the basin to develop additional management strategies to meet inter and intrastate needs, including compliance with federal Endangered Species Act requirements.

Requirements and Qualifications
">

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science, Emergency Management, or Engineering and two (2) years of relevant experience.

A combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Working Conditions
">

This position requires driving a state vehicle and must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

About the Position
">

This position is responsible for supporting technical and scientific decisions based on hydrologic/water resources analyses and evaluations, including evaluating the quality and sufficiency of available hydrologic data.

The incumbent will assist the Interstate Stream Commission, Pecos River Basin group, and the State of New Mexico.
