Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Hydrologist/Senior Environmental Consultant to join their Environmental Management and Nature-Based Solutions teams.

The ideal candidate will have substantial UK experience, including on-site work, and expertise in one or more of the following disciplines: Hydrology, CAR Licensing, Peat Management, Surface Water Management, Pollution Prevention Planning, Hydromorphology, and Hydrology Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).

The successful candidate will play a critical role in delivering high-quality environmental assessments, compliance strategies, and innovative nature-based solutions.

Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage environmental assessments and consultancy projects, ensuring compliance with UK regulations and industry best practices.
• Provide expert advice on hydrology, including flood risk assessments, water resource management, and drainage strategies.
• Oversee CAR Licensing applications and compliance with SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) requirements.
• Develop and implement peatland management strategies, including peat balance calculations and restoration techniques.
• Design and review surface water management plans, incorporating Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and mitigation measures.
• Prepare and implement pollution prevention plans to mitigate environmental risks on construction and infrastructure projects.
• Conduct hydromorphological assessments, identifying geomorphological processes, and proposing river restoration or enhancement strategies.
• Lead or contribute to hydrology EIA chapters, ensuring robust assessments and compliance with environmental legislation.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success.
• Conduct site visits, environmental audits, and field assessments to support project requirements.
• Mentor and support junior staff, providing technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
• Stay updated on environmental legislation, policies, and emerging trends in nature-based solutions and environmental management.

Requirements:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Hydrology, Geography, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Significant consultancy experience in the UK environmental sector, including on-site work.
• Strong technical expertise in hydrology, CAR Licensing, peatland management, surface water management, pollution prevention, or hydromorphology.
• Proven experience in conducting environmental impact assessments, particularly for water-related projects.
• Familiarity with relevant UK and Scottish environmental regulations, including SEPA guidelines and the Water Framework Directive.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in preparing technical reports and liaising with stakeholders.
• Proficiency in GIS, hydrological modeling software, and data analysis tools.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Full UK driving license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Desirable Skills:
• Chartered status or working towards Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), Chartered Water and Environmental Manager (CWEM), or equivalent.
• Experience designing and implementing nature-based solutions for climate resilience and water management.
• Knowledge of biodiversity net gain (BNG) and habitat restoration principles.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and public consultation processes.
