About the position
The State of Iowa is seeking a highly motivated Geologist 3 to join the Water Quality Bureau. This position plays a crucial role in protecting Iowa's aquifers and ensuring the safety of drinking water through expert well placement and groundwater program development. The successful candidate will work closely with well drillers and contractors, conducting reviews and assessments of private well projects, and providing technical assistance to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Responsibilities
• Conduct geologic and hydrogeologic well siting reviews for proposed private well projects.

• Review and interpret DNR documentation for environmental contamination and relay findings to relevant parties.
,
• Conduct geothermal well project reviews and assess feasibility based on Iowa Administrative Code and geological settings.
,
• Perform site visits to discuss future projects and address compliance issues with well drillers and permitting authorities.
,
• Coordinate between the Private Well and Water Allocation and Use Programs.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in geology, physical geography, or a closely related geological science.
,
• Experience equal to three years of full-time work in geology or four years in groundwater, soils, environmental geology, or GIS.

• Valid driver's license for travel related to job duties.
