Moody Gardens, Inc. is seeking a Horticulture Technician Summer Intern in Galveston, TX. Moody Gardens is seeking a motivated and hands-on Horticulture Technician Summer Intern to assist in the maintenance and care of its diverse plant collections, landscapes, and gardens. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for students or individuals interested in horticulture, botany, or environmental sciences to gain real-world experience in a dynamic and educational setting.
• Assist in daily maintenance of gardens, landscapes, and greenhouse collections, including planting, watering, weeding, mulching, and pruning.
• Support integrated pest management (IPM) practices, including monitoring and identifying plant pests and diseases.
• Help maintain irrigation systems, ensuring plants receive adequate water and nutrients.
• Participate in plant propagation, including seed starting, cutting, and transplanting.
• Assist in the care of tropical and native plants within Moody Gardens' Rainforest and outdoor exhibits.
• Work alongside horticulturists to design and enhance garden displays for educational and aesthetic purposes.
• Keep accurate records of plant health, care schedules, and treatments.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, work areas, and greenhouses.
• Provide guest engagement and education by answering questions about plant species, conservation, and horticulture.
• Follow all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a secure work environment.
• Currently pursuing or interested in a degree in Horticulture, Botany, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred but not required).
• Passion for plants, gardening, and conservation.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat and humidity.
• Willingness to perform physical labor such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
• Enthusiastic team player with good communication skills.
• Previous gardening, landscaping, or nursery experience is a plus but not required.
