Job Description
Zoo Atlanta is seeking a Horticulture Technician I to maintain the zoo's landscapes and botanical collection. Responsibilities include installing and caring for plants, supervising seasonal staff, and operating grounds equipment. Candidates need a high school diploma, a valid Georgia driver's license, and knowledge of horticultural practices. This is a full-time position located on-site in Atlanta, GA, offering a unique work environment with animals and nature.
About the position
The Horticulture Technician I at Zoo Atlanta is responsible for performing landscape duties to maintain the zoo's botanical collection and animal exhibits. This role requires a high degree of efficiency and independence, working closely with maintenance and grounds staff to ensure the upkeep of the zoo's landscapes. The technician will assist in supervising seasonal staff and volunteers, and will report to the Lead Horticulture Technician.
Responsibilities
• Installation and maintenance of plant materials, seasonal color, and turf for all Zoo landscapes and animal exhibits.

• Pruning, pest management, greenhouse management, and irrigation.
,
• Assist with supervision of seasonal staff and volunteers.
,
• Operate and maintain grounds equipment related to horticulture and arboriculture, including skid steer loaders and backhoe tractors.

• Identify and resolve problems to maintain the Zoo's botanical collection.
,
• Support Zoo Atlanta's Vision, Mission, and Values statement.
,
• Perform miscellaneous projects or assignments as assigned by the Horticulture management team.
Requirements
• High school diploma or GED required.
,
• Valid Georgia driver's license.
,
• Knowledge of horticultural practices, procedures, and principles.
,
• Experience in the operation and maintenance of grounds equipment.
,
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
,
• Good organizational and communication skills.
,
• Ability to work as a team member with little or no direct supervision.
,
• Must pass Social Security and criminal background checks; consent to TB, drug, and FRT tests.
Nice-to-haves
• Knowledge of installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems preferred.

• Experience with public interaction in a zoo environment.
