Job Description
MITRE Corporation is seeking a Homeland Security Economist in McLean, VA, to address national challenges in homeland security. About the position
At MITRE, the Homeland Security Economist will play a crucial role in addressing some of the nation's most pressing challenges. This position is situated within the Performance and Solutions Engineering Department of the MITRE Center for Securing the Homeland (CSH). The department is dedicated to applying a comprehensive understanding of homeland security, intelligence, public safety, and resilience to develop innovative solutions that enhance current and future homeland security operations. The work involves collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams that include engineers, economists, operations researchers, computational social scientists, data scientists, and domain experts. Together, these teams will provide an analytic basis for decision-making, focusing on areas such as agriculture and resource economics, environmental economics, supply chains, production analysis, critical infrastructure, and transportation. The ideal candidate will contribute to the development of various products, including global-to-local supply chain models, commodity or regional risk assessments, and analyses of risk reduction or resilience alternatives. This role requires a strong foundation in mathematical modeling and economic analysis, as well as the ability to work with large data sets and economic data sources such as the Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. Census, and Bureau of Labor Statistics. Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across diverse teams are essential for success in this position. Additionally, the candidate must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance, specifically the DHS Fitness clearance, and will be expected to work in a hybrid environment, with a minimum of 50% on-site presence.

Requirements
• Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

• Strong background in mathematical modeling and economic analysis.

• Experience in developing and analyzing large data sets.

• Familiarity with economic data sets such as Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. Census, IHS Markit, FRED, UN Comtrade, Bureau of Labor Statistics.

• Strong attention to detail and accountability.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and organizations.

• Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance - DHS Fitness.
