Hunter Philips Executive Search is seeking an experienced HSE Officer for a utility-scale BESS project in New South Wales, Australia. The role involves overseeing health, safety, and environmental operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, conducting site inspections, and providing HSE training. Candidates should have 3-5 years of experience in HSE roles, particularly in construction or energy projects, and hold relevant certifications. This is a 21-month contract with an ASAP start.
HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) Officer – Utility Scale BESS Project - New South Wales, Australia - $Excellent Day Rate - 21 Month Contract - ASAP Start Date (May latest)

We are looking for an experienced HSE Officer to join the team and oversee health, safety, and environmental operations for a large-scale BESS project. You will be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment and that the project adheres to all HSE regulations and standards. Your role will be key in maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental protection during the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities:
• Implement and enforce the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management system on site for the utility-scale BESS project.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with local HSE regulations, industry standards, and client requirements.
• Develop and implement safety procedures and work instructions to mitigate risks associated with BESS systems, electrical works, and other construction activities.
• Identify and assess health and safety risks, and work with the team to develop corrective actions and mitigation strategies.
• Monitor and report on HSE performance, including incident investigations, near-miss reports, and other safety-related documentation.
• Provide HSE training and inductions to project staff and contractors, ensuring all workers are aware of safety protocols.
• Assist with the development of environmental management plans, ensuring environmental risks are identified and controlled.
• Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and track performance against sustainability goals.
• Maintain accurate HSE records, incident reports, and other documentation required by the client, regulatory bodies, and the project team.
• Promote a strong safety culture on site, ensuring HSE considerations are integrated into all aspects of project work.

Experience and Qualifications:
• At least 3-5 years’ experience in HSE roles on large-scale construction or energy projects, preferably within the renewable energy or utility sector.
• Demonstrated experience working on BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) projects or similar energy-related projects.
• In-depth knowledge of Australian HSE regulations and industry standards, especially for large construction and electrical projects.
• Proven track record in conducting HSE audits, risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and educate a diverse workforce on safety and environmental matters.
• Ability to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement effective control measures.
• Certifications: Relevant HSE qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) and any other relevant certifications are highly desirable.
• Desirable: Experience with construction site HSE management, emergency response planning, and familiarity with renewable energy projects or BESS systems.
