Job Description

The City of Cleveland is seeking a Health Outreach Specialist to conduct community air quality outreach and health education activities. Responsibilities include coordinating with agencies, planning meetings and workshops, and engaging with citizens about air quality services. A Bachelor's Degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience are required. The position is based in Ohio and involves in-person engagement, making it non-remote.

Health Outreach Specialist

Under general supervision, conducts community air quality outreach and health education activities. Coordinates with non-governmental agencies, governmental agencies, and neighborhood development corporations to identify needs for air quality services and promotes available services to neighborhoods. Conducts community outreach and air quality education activities. Plans and conducts meetings, conferences, workshops, and other special events and speaking engagements as needed. Engages directly with citizens, their representatives, and other stakeholders and groups to effectively convey information about air quality and health education activities and available services.

Performs other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements:

A Bachelor's Degree from a four-year accredited college or university in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Environmental Engineering, or other closely related field is required. Two years of documented professional experience coordinating the efforts of governmental and non-governmental agencies engaged in environmental policy is required. Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds. Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites.

A valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required.

Additional Duties:

Conducts community air quality outreach and health education initiatives by coordinating with a variety of stakeholders. Plans and conducts meetings, conferences, workshops, and other special events and speaking engagements as needed. Engages directly with citizens, their representatives, and other stakeholders to effectively convey information about air quality and health education activities. Develops educational and promotional content for social media and print resources.

This position will support overall outreach activities with a specific focus on regulated community and industry engagement. Examples of duties include:
• Design and develop workshops, educational materials, and best practices for industry to reduce air pollution emissions.
• Facilitate and encourage practices that reduce industry impact on environmental justice communities, such as establishing resident concern hotlines.
• Develop strategies to inform the regulated community of changes in air pollution regulation.
• Develop strategies for informing community members of changes in air pollution regulation.
• Build collaborative partnerships with trade associations, industry representatives, and non-governmental associations that represent the regulated community.

Training will be provided but candidate should be comfortable reading complex materials including environmental regulations and technical documents. The standard hours for this position are Monday through Friday during the standard business hours. However, evening and weekend hours will be required several times per month.
