About the position

As a Health Inspector with the State of North Dakota, you will play a crucial role in ensuring public health and safety through comprehensive health and sanitation inspections. This position is based in Bismarck, ND, and involves conducting inspections of licensed food and lodging establishments, mobile home parks, recreational vehicle parks, campgrounds, body art facilities, and tanning establishments within your assigned territory, primarily covering South Central and Southwest North Dakota. You will utilize an assigned state fleet vehicle to travel to various locations and perform inspections in accordance with applicable state laws, rules, and industry standards. Your responsibilities will include assisting the Field Supervisor with plan review procedures across all program areas, providing technical assistance, education, and outreach to license applicants. You will lead the Division's educational outreach activities, focusing on environmental health and safety concerns, and develop training programs to enhance compliance and understanding among stakeholders. Additionally, you will assist with grant writing and budget planning, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support public health initiatives. In this role, you will be expected to make compliance decisions based on your observations, interviews, and record reviews. You will prepare and conduct investigations related to complaints, foodborne illnesses, and injuries, while also contributing to strategic planning and emergency response efforts. Your ability to prepare educational materials and share information will be vital in improving government transparency and engaging with the regulated community and consumers. To thrive in this position, you must be adept at developing and maintaining effective working relationships with various stakeholders, while also being capable of working independently and as part of a team. You will need to make informed decisions based on your knowledge and observations, and communicate information clearly and concisely. Responsibilities
• Conduct health and sanitation inspections of licensed food and lodging establishments, mobile home parks, recreational vehicle parks, campgrounds, body art, and tanning facilities.

Benefits
• Sign-on bonus up to $4000.

• Starting salary range of $4,600 - $5,700 per month with a potential 5% increase after six months of employment.

• Flexible work schedule options (four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days).
