Job Description

The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Manager at Ukpeagvik Inupiat Corporation in Anchorage, AK, is responsible for developing and overseeing health, safety, and environmental programs. About the position

The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization's health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and company standards. This role focuses on fostering a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence, working closely with management, employees, and external agencies to minimize risks and promote a safe and sustainable work environment.

Responsibilities
• Develop and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

• Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
,
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
,
• Coordinate HSE training programs to ensure all employees are knowledgeable about safety protocols and environmental compliance.

• Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
,
• Prepare and submit required environmental and safety reports to regulatory agencies.
,
• Promote a culture of safety and environmental awareness through engagement and communication initiatives.

• Collaborate with operations teams to integrate HSE considerations into daily activities and project planning.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Safety Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Proven experience in HSE management within industrial, maritime, or transportation sectors is preferred.
,
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations.
,
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves
• Comprehensive understanding of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation regulations and requirements.

• Expertise in federal environmental and safety standards enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).
,
• Familiarity with Alaska Chadux Network standards and other regional maritime environmental protection programs.
,
• Experience in incident response planning and coordination in line with Alaska-specific protocols.
,
• Strong background in risk management, including environmental impact assessments and hazardous material handling in remote and challenging conditions.
