Job Description

NAB is seeking a Head of Employment Legal in Melbourne, VIC, to lead a team providing legal advice on employment law, industrial relations, and work health and safety. Responsibilities include managing litigation, regulatory matters, and external legal services. The ideal candidate has over 10 years of experience, strong leadership skills, and the ability to advise senior management. NAB promotes a diverse and inclusive workplace culture.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head of Employment Legal to join the Regulatory and Commercial team.  

The Head of Employment Legal will provide legal advice on and be responsible for the management of actual or potential litigation, complaints, significant regulatory matters and reputational risks relating to employment law, industrial relations and work health and safety matters.  You will also lead a team of lawyers who provide legal advice on and manage those employment, industrial relations and work health and safety legal matters. 

You will be tasked with selecting and appointing external lawyers, barristers, and professional advisors.

Reporting to the Legal Officer, Regulator and Commercial Legal, you will be instrumental in making decisions related to the team structure and priorities.

In addition, your will be accountable for:
• Individually or jointly advising on matters of significant legal impact and/or commercial and reputational sensitivity.
• Managing provision and cost of external legal services.
• Oversight of legal advice prepared for and provided to relevant business units.
• The management of the Employment Legal team’s portfolio of work and the management of the individual team members.
• Assisting the NAB Group to avoid or minimise future litigation, regulatory matters and reputational risks in respect of employment law, industrial relations and employee health and safety matters.

What you’ll bring

You are a highly motivated individual who strives to consistently provide high quality, commercially relevant decisions in the management of our legal, regulatory and reputational risk. You are admitted to Practice as a Barrister or Solicitor and hold a current Legal Practicing Certificate with 10+ years PQE.

In addition, you can demonstrate
• Significant experience providing a large ASX listed entity with legal advice on employment, industrial relations and work health and safety matters.
• Proven ability to advise and influence senior management and executives and to develop and implement strategy at an enterprise level.
• Experience in leading professional teams.
• Deep understanding of managing employment law, industrial relations and work health and safety matters.
• Excellent organisational skills, including prioritisation and time management.
• Proven problem solver and excellent communication skills including ability to influence senior stakeholders and executives.
