Job Description
Drax is seeking a Head of Carbon Accounting to oversee the accuracy of its carbon emissions footprint and related climate policies. This role involves setting decarbonisation targets, tracking progress, and presenting to senior stakeholders. Candidates should have experience in corporate carbon accounting, energy, and influencing senior leadership. The position is permanent and full-time, with flexible location options, indicating it can be remote.

About the role:
As the Head of Carbon Accounting you’ll be responsible for overseeing the accuracy and integrity of the Group’s carbon emissions footprint, the Group’s Basis of Reporting and associated Climate policies across the business. You’ll be responsible for setting policy and deriving appropriate carbon lifecycle assessment calculations for new projects, acquisitions and disposals, existing asset upgrades and changes to our operational footprint.
You’ll be responsible for setting and tracking progress against our externally disclosed decarbonisation targets (e.g. SBTi targets), including presenting progress against these targets to the Drax Executive Committee, the Board and other senior stakeholders. This includes, but not limited to, validating new SBTi targets, determining suitable projects for the Group Bonus scorecard and supporting the proposing business unit to facilitate new project ideas. You’ll be responsible for reviewing and tracking the performance and decarbonisation projects and identifying new opportunities to gain funding and assist with the creation of business cases for new projects.
Who we’re looking for:
To be successful in the role you’ll need to have -
• Proven experience in corporate carbon accounting methodologies for carbon emissions reporting
• Previous experience in energy, biomass, or bioenergy
• A proven track record of trust and confidence building within senior leadership
• Proven ability to influence and advise at a Senior level
• Proven ability designing reporting systems capable of handling large amounts of complex data
• A proven track record in working with auditors for regulatory or voluntary carbon audits
• Knowledge of carbon accounting application in relevant policies, regulations and Standards including the GHG Protocol, Science Based Targets initiative, the UK Renewables Obligation and EU Renewable Energy Directive
