About the position

The Hatchery Manager position at the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks involves overseeing and coordinating all aspects of fish culture at the Pratt Fish Hatchery. The role includes managing facility operations, supervising staff, and ensuring the health and production of fish. The manager will also be responsible for budget preparation, reporting, and compliance with state regulations.

Responsibilities
• Oversee and coordinate culture work for Pratt Fish Hatchery.

• Plan, supervise, and coordinate work assignments and facility operations.
,
• Hire, supervise, and evaluate permanent and temporary employees.
,
• Implement all aspects of hatchery operation including pond preparation and stocking densities.
,
• Monitor water quality and manage facility water use.
,
• Conduct fish spawning and artificial hatching processes.
,
• Identify and treat fish diseases, and control vegetation.
,
• Manage fish harvest and transport operations.
,
• Prepare and submit administrative and operational reports.
,
• Compile fish production and stocking records for the hatchery.
,
• Supervise maintenance of fish production ponds and operational buildings.
,
• Coordinate dissemination of information via tours and media forms.
,
• Complete special projects as assigned.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in fisheries science/management or wildlife science/management.

• Three years of work experience in fisheries management or related field.
,
• State of Kansas Driver's License required upon employment.
,
• Commercial Applicator License - Category 5 for Aquatic Pesticides required upon employment.
