Greenhouse Technician

Pure Green Farms is hiring a full-time Greenhouse Technician in South Bend, IN. The role involves sanitation and upkeep of the greenhouse and warehouse, routine irrigation cleaning, pest management, and equipment maintenance. Schedule: First Shift: 8am-4:30pm, 5 days per week with one weekend day. We are flexible on which weekend day. Weekend Shift Desire and Availability:

Required Pay: $15/hr (.50 to $1 raise after successful 90-day completion period and based on aptitude/performance)

Job Type Full Time/Non-exempt Job Description: Pure Green Farms is currently seeking a Full Time Greenhouse Team Member/Greenhouse Sanitation Tech who is responsible for the sanitation and upkeep of the facility. This role will be focused on ensuring that the greenhouse and attached warehouse is maintained at the highest standard to grow leafy greens in a clean and efficient manner.

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Carry out regular sanitation of high traffic areas (greenhouse/warehouse walkways, and other areas as directed)
• Perform routine irrigation system cleaning (Training will be provided)
• Assist with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) efforts by conducting routine replacement of sticky tape and clearing any debris that may be a food source for pests
• Conduct and support basic preventative maintenance of equipment in the greenhouse
• Responsible for ensuring that plants are kept clean, and that the immediate surrounding area is free of unwanted growth (algae, weeds, etc.)
• Provide updates to supervisors when noticing issues in the greenhouse
• Learn automated process machinery to assist in keeping the greenhouse running (Good opportunity to learn about greenhouse crop production)
• Additional duties as assigned Requirements:
• Must have manual dexterity and ability to operate process machinery and maintain repetitive processes
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs
• Must be comfortable with crawling or fitting into tight spaces
• It is needed to be physically fit with enough endurance to stay moving
• Must remain flexible in schedule and pick up shifts when others are sick or need PTO. We are a tight nit team and take care of each other in this way
• Must be a detail-oriented, self-starter
• Self-motivated, reliable, punctual, open-minded, and positive attitude a must
• Occasional forklift operation may be required (Training provided)
• Learning and following all food safety and quality policies and procedures
• Ability to make critical decisions quickly and repeatedly
• Ability to adapt and to be responsive in the face of changing and evolving order demands
• Ability to make changes as needed without advance notice
• Able to find fulfillment in maintaining safe and pristine natural growing environment for plants and people Working Conditions:
• The greenhouse is filled with metal framing that supports lettuce plants and automation equipment. This is surrounded by concrete walkways. There are raised metal catwalks with ladders between the plants. Underneath the plants are air distribution tubes and it people must crouch to traverse this area. We have a sky cart for maintenance above in the rafters. The warehouse is home to the automated production line, and this is where most people work.
• Most of the day will be spent in a greenhouse where the temp/humidity (70-80 °F/70-80%RH) can be slightly uncomfortable. Depending on the season this can vary. We work smart and avoid high physical labor in the heat of the day.
• Position requires standing and walking on a regular basis for prolonged periods Education/Experience:
• Passion for horticulture/agriculture is a plus
• Forklift, tractor, or farm equipment operator experience is a plus
• Former experience in garden, greenhouse or agricultural settings a plus
• A good understanding of sanitation strategies/equipment and chemicals is a huge plus
• Operating and understanding irrigation equipment/systems is a huge plus Benefits:
