Waste Management is hiring a Diesel Truck Technician for a position requiring 100% travel, primarily based in Providence, RI. The technician will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair vehicles and equipment, ensuring operational excellence. About the position

Waste Management (WM) is seeking a skilled technician to perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMI) and troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild major components on vehicles and equipment. This role is critical in ensuring the accurate diagnosis and effective repair or replacement of components, contributing to the overall operational excellence of the company. The technician will be responsible for performing inspections and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, ensuring that all work is completed in a timely and efficient manner. The position requires extensive travel, with a commitment of 40 to 47 weeks per year, necessitating the ability to work flexible hours, including night shifts when required. In this role, the technician will utilize vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes and initiate or assign repairs. They will also be responsible for estimating time and material costs for repairs, advising supervisors of any additional work needed, and inspecting the quality of outside repairs. The technician will conduct safety checks on vehicles and maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate and OSHA standards. Although this position does not have supervisory duties, the technician may provide guidance and training to other maintenance personnel as directed by the Fleet Manager. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or G.E.D., along with four years of relevant work experience. They must possess a valid driver's license and a CDL license (or the ability to obtain one within 90 days), as well as three or more ASE certifications in relevant areas. The technician should also be able to communicate effectively about needed repairs and possess the skills necessary to operate tools and equipment used in vehicle servicing and repair.

Responsibilities
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and ensure timely and effective repair of any problems identified during an inspection.

• Conduct proficient inspection, diagnosis, and moderately complex repair of assigned vehicles and equipment.
,
• Provide assistance, guidance, and direction to other maintenance personnel.
,
• Utilize vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
,
• Estimate time and material costs on repairs and requisition new parts.
,
• Advise supervisor immediately if additional work is needed or if repairs cannot be completed within the Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
,
• Inspect the quality of outside/supplier repairs and or rebuilds, assessing structural damage and assigning needed repairs.
,
• Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns.
,
• Conduct safety checks on vehicles and perform maintenance-related work as required.
,
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards.

Requirements
• High school diploma or G.E.D (accredited).
,
• Four years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).
,
• Valid driver's license, CDL license (or ability to obtain within ninety (90) days).
,
• 3 or more ASE Certifications (or the equivalent) among the following: Brakes (T4 ASE), Drive Train (T3 ASE), Heat/Vent/AC (T3 ASE), Steering Suspension (T5 ASE), Elec/Electronic (T6 ASE), PMI (T8 ASE), Diesel Engines (T2 ASE), Natural Gas (F1 ASE).

• Must become certified in Hydraulics, Transmission, and Heavy Equipment within three (3) weeks of hire.

Nice-to-haves
• Skill in operating tools equipment, parts and procedures utilized during the repair and servicing of vehicles and equipment.

• Ability to effectively communicate needed repairs or tasks.

• Ability to diagnose defects in and repair a variety of equipment and vehicles.

• Ability to utilize fleet maintenance software program.

• Knowledge of Total Tire Maintenance Program.
