Job Description:

As a Green Space Maintenance Specialist at Georgetown University, you will play a critical role in maintaining the university's grounds and ensuring a safe and clean living and learning environment. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee the maintenance of campus landscapes, including grounds equipment operation, snow and ice removal, irrigation system maintenance, and landscape material installation. The ideal candidate will have 1-5 years of progressively responsible experience in grounds and landscape maintenance, with a minimum of two years as a landscape lead man or crew leader. They should also possess a valid driver's license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia, and experience operating pick-up trucks, tractors, skid-steer loaders, all-terrain vehicles, and specialized grounds maintenance equipment is desired. The successful candidate will be able to work in seasonal weather conditions, lift and carry 50 pounds, and communicate effectively with employees who may work under their supervision.

About the Role:

This position reports directly to the Landscape Manager and has direct supervisory responsibilities for 2 Gardeners II, 6 Gardeners, 9 Laborers, and 1 Equipment Operator positions. Indirectly, they supervise one to eight laborer positions. The incumbent schedules and performs landscape maintenance, snow and ice removal, campus clean-up, irrigation maintenance and repair, landscape installation, and operates all grounds equipment to promote campus safety, aesthetics, and distinction.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and perform snow and ice removal of campus staircases, ramps, and walkways.
• Safely operate all grounds equipment, instructing team members on proper equipment operation.
• Monitor equipment maintenance needs to ensure proper performance.
• Coordinating, instructing, and assisting team members in removing trash and recyclable materials from designated building drop points, outdoor receptacles, and grounds.
• Serve as a working leader to perform all tasks related to installation of landscape materials and irrigation maintenance and repair.
Requirements and Qualifications:
• 1-5 years of progressively responsible grounds and landscape maintenance experience.
• A valid and current driver's license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia.
• Knowledge of most common plant material and names.
• Knowledge of work methods, equipment, and procedures to assure health and safety standards are met.
• Capacity to work in seasonal weather conditions and the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
• Ability to work well individually and as a member of a team.
• Good verbal communication skills to provide clear direction to employees.
