Job Description

The University of California, Riverside is hiring a Grant Writer to support scientific research and enhance grant funding competitiveness. This position requires a Bachelor's degree and 6-10 years of related experience. Responsibilities include writing compelling content, project management, and collaboration with various research centers. The salary range is $81,500 - $150,100 annually, with expected pay between $81,500 - $132,950. This is an on-site role located in Riverside, CA.
Position Information

The Grant Writer supports cutting-edge scientific research to increase institutional and researcher competitiveness which will enable researchers to obtain high stakes grant funding, central to faculty research, career development, and retention. The Grant Writer will report administratively to the Directors of the RAISE Data Science Center but will provide support to CALIT2, as well as other Research and Economic Development research centers and units. The full salary range for the Grant Writer position is $81,500 - $150,100 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $81,500 - $132,950 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

• Advanced knowledge of the fundamentals of writing, grammar, syntax, style, and punctuation and advanced skills to write clear, lively, engaging, compelling and effective copy in a variety of styles appropriate to target audiences and the broader public.
• Advanced knowledge of appropriate editorial style and publication guidelines.
• Advanced knowledge of issues in higher education, a specialized academic discipline or field and / or health sciences.
• Knowledge of computer applications for publishing, image handling, and / or web production.
• Advanced skill in taking initiative to creatively identify and pitch story ideas to senior management and clients.
• Advanced research and fact verification skills.
• Advanced interpersonal communications skills, including active listening and effective collaboration skills.
• Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Advanced project management, organizational and problem recognition, avoidance and resolution skills.

Researches, writes and / or edits high-level communications, publications, and / or reports with complex or sensitive subject matter to audiences that are either broad or highly influential. Requires subject-matter expertise and an in-depth understanding of the audience and the communication strategies that will best serve the institution with that audience. Work is of considerable difficulty and may require political acumen and sensitivity.

Department Custom Scope

As a Grant Writer supporting units in Research and Economic Development (RED), the incumbent is responsible for researching, writing and/or editing high-level communications, publications, and/or reports with complex or sensitive subject matters. The position will support units including Riverside Artificial Intelligence Research and Education Institute (RAISE at UCR), California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (CALIT2), as well as other research centers and RED units as needed. Subject matter areas will vary, but there will be a considerable focus on research related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, development, and applications to audiences that are either broad or highly influential for RAISE as well as clean energy and other related areas aligned with CALIT2's mission. The role requires the incumbent to possess subject-matter expertise, or the ability to quickly learn the nuances of various complex fields and an in-depth understanding of the audience and the communication strategies that will best serve the institution with that audience. The incumbent will be working with concepts that are complex in nature, while also navigating input from numerous stakeholders which will require political acumen and sensitivity.
