• Master’s Degree in Biology, Aquatic Resources, Marine Biology, or related discipline
• At least two years experience in estuarine and/or marine ecotoxicology
• Experience collecting bay sediment using piston cores and grab samplers
• Experience processing sediment samples in the lab for grain size analysis, organic matter content, and trace element analysis
• Experience using GIS, R, SigmaPlot, and MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience using sediment quality guidelines in risk assessment for estuarine organisms
• Experience identifying and collecting tissue samples from estuarine and marine fishes
• Experience identifying and collecting benthic organisms
• Experience surveying the public about their fishing activities
Job Description
The Grant Specialist will work under the supervision of Dr. Jessica Dutton on grant funded projects investigating the concentration of trace elements in bay sediment along the mid-Texas coast and whether trace element concentrations are high enough to pose a risk to the health of estuarine organisms. This is a 12-month position, with the possibility of extension if additional funds become available.
Job Duties
• Collect sediment samples in the field and process samples in the lab
• Conduct data analysis and make figures and tables for presentations and publications
• Present results at scientific conferences
• Assist in writing reports and manuscripts for publication
• Assist with other field and lab activities as needed
