About the position

The Graduate Research Assistant (Power System Innovation) position at the University of Hawaii involves participation in the Hawai'i Natural Energy Institute's Grid Systems Technologies Advanced Research Team (GridSTART). The role focuses on assisting the Principal Investigator with the development, testing, and evaluation of advanced grid architectures, energy policies, and new technologies for integrating renewable energy resources and enhancing power system resilience. The assistant will support research related to smart grids, microgrids, and power systems operation, utilizing machine learning, data analysis, and web development skills. Responsibilities include developing analysis tools, conducting data analysis, and reporting findings in a publication-style format. The position is part-time (50% FTE), temporary, and contingent upon funding and performance, with a start date around Spring 2025.

Responsibilities
• Participate as a member of the Grid Systems Technologies Advanced Research Team (GridSTART).

• Assist the Principal Investigator with the development, testing, and evaluation of advanced grid architectures.

• Support research related to smart grid, micro grid, and renewable energy grid integration.

• Utilize machine learning data analysis and data science skills.

• Develop front-end and back-end functionalities of analysis tools.

• Conduct data analysis and reduction.

• Organize and report findings in a publication-style report.

• Be trained in EHSO laboratory safety and conduct materials development experiments.

Requirements
• Must be a degree-seeking graduate student (Masters or PhD) at UH Manoa in computer science or a related field.

• Must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above and full-time enrollment.

• B.S. in computer science or related field.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Highly organized and able to work with minimal supervision.
