Job Description
Terrafuse AI is seeking a Geospatial Data Scientist (Research Fellow or Part-time Consultant) to analyze environmental data using Python and ArcGIS. The role involves validating catastrophe risk models and creating visualizations for clients in climate risk sectors. Candidates should have 5-7 years of experience in software or environmental engineering, with strong GIS and data analysis skills. The position is part-time and can be performed remotely or in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Position: Geospatial Data Scientist (Research Fellow or Part-time Consultant)
Terrafuse is building AI technology that makes climate and weather modeling 1000x faster and 100x cheaper than any other product on the market, unlocking fundamentally new use cases in climate risk and other business domains.
Our technology combines academic expertise in climate science and machine learning, developed at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and supported by NSF, NASA, the U.S. Department of Defense, and Microsoft AI for Earth. Our vision is to develop a Queryable Earth, where cloud-native Earth observation and climate data are combined with AI to produce actionable insights into climate risks for businesses and society.
Our starting points are wildfire and wind. Extreme wildfire conditions have increased by 50% in recent decades due to climate change, affecting insurance industries' ability to predict losses accurately. Our product enables precise insurance pricing, making coverage economically feasible again. Our clients include government agencies in aviation and clean energy sectors.
We have developed a groundbreaking wildfire risk model that accurately predicted the Los Angeles fires and continues to forecast future events. This technology is vital for disaster preparedness and response, and your work as an intern could directly contribute to saving lives and reducing environmental damage.
