Haley & Aldrich is seeking a Geologist or Environmental Scientist for a full-time position in Raleigh, NC. The role involves significant travel to job sites, conducting field activities for environmental and geotechnical projects, and monitoring contractors during construction. Candidates should have a B.S. in Geology or Environmental Science, 3-8 years of consulting experience, and strong communication skills. The position requires adherence to safety protocols and compliance with health standards.
We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are currently seeking a Geologist or Environmental Scientist to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This position requires significant travel to job sites and extensive work outside the office, involving site and subsurface characterization for environmental and geotechnical projects, as well as monitoring contractors’ geotechnical and environmental activities during construction. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a full-time position located in our Charlotte, NC or Cary, NC offices.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will:
• Work on assignments that require a portion of time conducting field activities for environmental projects, followed by office work to provide client deliverables.
• Perform site reconnaissance to observe existing conditions, assess site access for subsurface explorations, and identify important site features.
• Conduct on-site monitoring/ observation of contractor environmental related construction activities.
• Monitor subsurface exploration activities (e.g., test borings, geoprobes, and test pits) to collect soil, bedrock, groundwater, and other pertinent information for project design.
• Conduct soil and groundwater sampling in accordance with applicable ASTM standards, company standard procedures, and other industry standard guidelines.
• Conduct routine data collection, synthesis, and analysis using approved procedures appropriate for their discipline.
• Compile, reduce, analyze, manage, and report field, instrumentation, geological, and/or environmental data using spreadsheets and other tools.
• Use various environmental instrumentation and equipment during field work.
• Perform historical site review and review applicable regulations, as appropriate.
• Prepare written reports, proposals, cost estimates, and other client deliverables, including Phase I and Phase II ESAs.
• Adhere to Site Specific Health and Safety Plans prepared for each project site. Participate in site safety briefings and audits by both contractors and Haley & Aldrich.
• Comply with the Guiding Principles and Code of Behavior articulated in our Company Charter.
• Comply with company and client Health & Safety protocols.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
• B.S. degree in Geology, Environmental Science or other related discipline. M.S. degree welcomed.
• 3-8 years of professional services consulting experience that includes construction quality. control/documentation, execution of Phase I/Phase II environmental assessments, evaluation of environmental data, and presentation of technical solutions in a variety of written and oral formats.
• Has or will apply for initial professional certification in their core discipline, where applicable, such as EIT or FE, or FG or PG.
• Ability to direct subcontractors and ensure compliance with prepared safety plans.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong computer literacy skills including proficiency in MS Office software.
• Ability to travel to temporary assignments across the U.S.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must have a reliable form of transportation to travel to job sites and the office.
• OSHA 40-hr. HAZWOPER and OSHA 10-hr. Construction Site Safety training preferred.
