The State of Wyoming is seeking a Deputy Director for the Game & Fish Division in Cheyenne, WY. This permanent full-time role involves directing and managing wildlife control, propagation, and regulation. Responsibilities include collaborating with government agencies and stakeholders, overseeing department functions, and ensuring compliance with laws. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree and significant experience in wildlife management. Travel is required for this position.

Description and Functions

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Directs, plans, organizes, and controls functions of a major department of state government responsible for the "control, propagation, management, protection, and regulation of all Wyoming Wildlife" (23-1-103). Responsible for working with the Governor's Office, Legislature, and the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission on a variety of issues, including sensitive species, funding, energy development, and other matters associated with the department's mission. Directs, plans, organizes, and controls functions of the agency's Statewide Habitat Protection Program.

Extensive interactions with federal, state, and local government agencies, legislators, non-governmental organizations, and private industry on a wide variety of wildlife-related issues.Direct department administrators and subordinates to accomplish department objectives.Assign activities to meet department objectives, delegate authority, and implement direction.Regulate activities per statutes, objectives, and budget.Establish department objectives after evaluating constituents' desires and regulatory, social, and budgetary constraints.Develop or select alternatives to accomplish department objectives.Prioritize and maintain staffing of positions to ensure the effectiveness of the department.Serve as the department Director in their absence.Advisory to other organizations, the general public, and work groups.Serve on various regional and national committees that develop policy positions governing wildlife.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
Preference may be given to individuals with work experience in wildlife management.
**Must have a valid driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of fish and wildlife management and policy.Knowledge of environmental compliance, laws, and processes.Knowledge of personnel management.Knowledge of state and federal legislation and regulations.Knowledge of current and future trends (national and local).Skill in planning and organizing large, complex programs and evaluating progress toward objectives.Skill in public-political involvement.Skill in managing large departments with multiple areas of expertise.Skill in decision-making.Skill in oral and written communications.Skill in interpersonal relations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Wildlife Management)
Experience:
6-8 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Game and Fish Administrator
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
8-10 years of progressive work experience (typically in Wildlife Management) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Game and Fish Administrator
