Job Description
The New York State Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation is seeking a GIS Intern for the Climate Smart Facilities program from May/June to September 2025. This full-time, temporary position involves assessing and mapping infrastructure threatened by climate change. Applicants must be current SUNY students with expertise in GIS. The role is based in Rockland County, NY, with a work schedule of Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Duties Description Duration: May/June – September 2025 (Summer)
Hours: 8:30-4:30, Monday through Friday. Potentially flexible.
Overview
•The Climate Smart Facilities intern will support the Palisades Region in the assessment and mapping of infrastructure to assess threats from climate change impacts and develop resiliency plans.
•Interns work up to 37.5 hours/week.
Job Duties
•With Regional Staff, expand the current database facilities, infrastructure, and habitats that are potentially threatened by climate change.
•Using GIS, survey the elements of the list and develop a geodatabase that includes location, condition information, photographs, and other info as desired.
•Analyze data and develop reports as need to assist in the preparation of a resiliency plan for the region’s infrastructure
Minimum Qualifications Qualifications
•Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in environmental studies, GIS, or similar discipline.
•Must have expertise with GPS/GIS and be able to collect data independently in a variety of conditions
