Job Description

Umbel Roots is hiring a full-time Farmhand in Petaluma, CA. Responsibilities include planting, weeding, harvesting, and maintaining farm property under the Farm Manager's guidance. Candidates should have at least one year of farming experience and be able to communicate in basic English. The position requires physical stamina and teamwork. Pay starts at $17.00, with housing available from May 2025. This is not a remote job.
COMPENSATION

Pay: $17.00 – $$$+ (Our compensation is strictly based on what you bring to the table).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• 1+ year of related farming experience
• You must be currently working in the USA to be qualified for this job.
• Farm working housing will only be available in May 2025- We DO NOT have housing right now and this position starts ASAP.

What you’ll be doing in this role…

Under the direction of the Farm Manager, the Farm Hand position works to achieve the company’s objectives in the production of fruit, vegetables, herbs, flowers, and maintaining our farm property.

We are a certified organic Michelin Stared driven farm who will be Demeter Certified in December 2025. Using the best tools in and around the field, growing the more interesting vegetables from the best seed companies around the USA. Chef, sous Chefs and persons whom worked in kitchens will be welcomed with open arms.

Fieldwork: planting, weeding, mulching, irrigation, spraying, pest/disease management, seed collecting

Greenhouse work: sowing, thinning, potting up, propagation

Harvesting & post- harvest handling: washing, sorting, packing

Consistent, thorough, and timely communication with peers and management

What we grow or what the farm is referred to. It’s a market garden whom focuses our attention on organically growing vegetables, flowers, fruits and specific livestock for the greater north bay community.

• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English at a basic level
• Highly responsible & reliable
• Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team with minimum supervision
• Completing assigned tasks in a timely manner.
• *The hearts desire to work for the job you’d like to have not the job you’re currently doing.**
• The ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, push/pull, crouch, crawl, reach with hands and arms, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds
• Continual use of manual dexterity and gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills
• Set schedule of Monday through Friday sunrise to eight and a half hours later. Hours change with the seasons light hours.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND/OR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely and successfully with federal, state, and local standards

Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds

Ability to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time

Ability to physically maneuver through work areas; bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, climb stairs and steps, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment
