Position Highlights
The University of Arizona is seeking candidates to fill The Kemper and Ethel Marley Chair and Endowment for Sustainable Rangeland Stewardship. Faculty appointment will be a Full Professor, Rangeland Ecology and Management in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment. The Marley Endowment for Sustainable Rangeland Stewardship works to support technical assistance, community-based research, and education to enhance and strengthen the ecological, economic, and social viability of Arizona ranching in the 21st century.
The candidate selected for this position will work to empower communities to solve specific resource management problems and promote problem solving research and careful stewardship of Arizona's economic and ecological rangeland resources and their use. Primary efforts focused on leadership in:(1) developing and facilitating complex and diverse networks of participants, (2) providing agile research and educational programs to address identified needs, and (3) identifying emerging issues for programming. Rangeland monitoring and education programs have served as the foundation for improved communication among ranching families and regulatory agency personnel and have led to increased knowledge about the role of communication, collaboration, and ecological monitoring in making sound resource management decisions. The incumbent will lead educational programming and field research that focuses on evidence-based decisions to support natural resource dependent communities and economies. The incumbent will also bring scientific research to Arizona's ranching families and rural communities to support stewardship of Arizona's economic and ecological resources for the use of rangelands by domestic livestock.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a high profile, relevant research, and education program in Sustainable Rangeland Stewardship, with emphasis on arid and semi-arid rangelands, which is recognized at regional, state, national and international levels. The position is associated with an endowed chair which may be renewed every five years and is subject to a review process.

Duties & Responsibilities
The position is a 9-month, tenure track Full Rank Professor appointment (60-30-10 Extension-Research-Service).
• Work cooperatively with diverse stakeholders, including other state and federal agencies, ranchers, commodity groups, private industry, private landowners, and non-governmental organizations to formulate educational programs for diverse audiences and develop innovative approaches to solving a variety of rangeland problems, such as achieving multiple use objectives across regional working landscapes with multiple ownerships.
• Provide training, technical expertise and educational programming support for County Extension Agents in the discipline area of rangeland management with specific expertise in public and state land grazing issues.
• Empower participatory research and education that support sustainable rangeland stewardship, community-based conservation, and use of natural resources.
• Engage and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in sustainable rangeland stewardship.
Minimum Qualifications
• Ph.D in relevant field such as but not limited to Natural Resources, Economic Development, Rangeland Ecology and Management, Environmental Policy, Participatory Research, Restoration Ecology.
• 10-years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with orknowledge of:
• Regulation of livestock grazing permits andleases on Federal and State lands including application of NEPA to permitrenewals and implementation; application of the Endangered Species Act toregulate permitted uses of rangelands and other pertinent state and federalenvironmental regulations influencing the use and management of rangelands.
• Wildlife/livestock interactions, includingmitigation of livestock grazing practices in response to presence of CriticalHabitat for a variety of threatened and endangered species.
• Rangeland monitoring, assessment of trends,and state and transition models of plant succession.
• Working with a diverse group of stakeholdersto support sustainable rangeland stewardship, community-based conservation, anduse of natural resources.
• Proven track record of educationalprogramming for diverse audiences in formal and informal settings.
• Experience engaging and mentoringundergraduate and graduate students in sustainable rangeland stewardship.
