Job Description
Bank.Green is seeking a Frontend Engineer to enhance their public website and Green Policy Evaluator. This volunteer role requires 10-20 hours per week for at least 6 months, focusing on UI development using Vue.js and integrating APIs. Candidates should have experience in frontend engineering and be comfortable working asynchronously with a distributed team. The mission is to promote sustainable banking and reduce the carbon footprint of financial institutions.
About Bank.Green
Since the Paris Agreement, global banks have poured a staggering $6.9t into the fossil fuel industry. At Bank.Green, our mission is to lower this vast carbon footprint via technology and consumer action. We empower bank customers with the tools and insights they need to influence their banks towards sustainable lending, or switch to greener alternatives. To date, our bank-checking tool has been used over 500,000 times by bank customers worldwide, while we have shifted a at least $35,000,000 towards banks who are financing a greener future.
Through transparency, engagement, and innovation, we aim to redefine the role of banks in the fight against climate change.
Role Overview
We have a need for Frontend Engineers on 2 different teams works on products that ultimately support our core mission. You will play a crucial role in the development of either the public facing Bank.Green website or our internal Green Policy Evaluator (GPE).
GPE a cutting-edge project aimed at analyzing bank policies with the assistance of LLM technology, along with human oversight and review. This tool allows us to rapidly expand our coverage of environmentally evaluated banks ultimate shown on our public website. The frontend is built using Retool, a low-code tool. Much of the work around retool involves integrating API calls and updating designs.
The Bank.Green website allows users to see how their current bank, and potential new alternative banks, rank on environmental issues - primarily fossil fuel and related sectors support. It also provides suggestions on how to talk to your current or potential future bank about your environmental concerns. It also hosts miscellaneous other public facing aspects of our organization supporting the primary mission of encouraging people to have their own money stop supporting fossil fuel related banks. The website is builtin Vue.js with Nuxt.js and deployed via Cloudflare. Much of the work involves building new interfaces, creating slices in prismic.io (a headless CMS) and adjusting GraphQL API calls to our backend.
Commitment
This role is unpaid and volunteer-based. We are seeking a commitment of 10-20 hours per week. We are looking for somebody to come on long-term, for at least a 6 month commitment.
Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the existing team of developers and UX/UI designer to enhance and maintain the either the Green Policy Evaluator or Bank.Green website
• Develop robust frontend solutions connecting to prismic.io, RESTful, and GraphQL APIs.
• Design, implement, and optimize UI utilizing vue.js on nuxt.
• Ensure seamless integration of frontend components with backend systems.
• Participate in Agile development methodologies, including maintaining a Linear issue board and adhering to a loose SCRUM system.
• Contribute to code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure high-quality software delivery
Qualifications
• Proven experience as a Frontend Engineer, preferably in a mid to senior level capacity.
• Proficiency in JavaScript programming language.
• Familiarity with Vue.js + Nuxt is nice to have but experience with React+Next also works well
• Familiarity with Retool is nice to have
• Interest in working asynchronously with colleagues in different time zones - through Slack, MS Teams, or similar.
• Experience working in Agile environments and using collaborative development tools (e.g., Linear or Jira, Git).
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Passion for sustainability and environmental advocacy.
