About the position
The Forestry Technician position at Mosaic Ecology involves working as part of a team to restore native forests, prairies, and wetlands in the northern Willamette Valley. This role requires outdoor manual labor in various weather conditions and includes responsibilities such as identifying plant species, removing invasive species, and maintaining restoration sites. The position is physically demanding and requires a positive attitude while working in challenging terrains.
Responsibilities
• Work with a crew of 3-10 individuals on various projects primarily in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties.

• Identify common native and non-native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous species.
,
• Remove brush and trees from restoration sites using chainsaws, brush cutters, and mowers.
,
• Conduct careful herbicide application to invasive species on a regular basis.
,
• Maintain restoration sites using hand and power tools.
,
• Plant bare-root and containerized plants, trees, shrubs, plugs, and bulbs.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Recent or relevant experience with outdoor or manual labor such as construction, ranching, farming, landscaping, industrial tree planting, wildland firefighting, or trail crews.

• Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
,
• Knowledge of native and non-native plant species.
,
• Ability to apply herbicide and maintain an IST license.
,
• Ability to regularly perform up to 10 hours of physically demanding work per day.
,
• Ability to work off trail, on steep and variable terrain, in variable weather, while maintaining a positive attitude.
,
• Must display great attendance with no more than seven call-outs per year and three during the probationary period.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs at a time.
,
• Excellent spatial awareness and the ability to read maps.
,
• Ability to take direction from supervisors and make independent decisions when necessary.
,
• Knowledge of operating and maintaining gas-powered tools.
,
• Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English.
