About the position

The Forest Practices Specialist (Environmental Specialist 4) position at the Washington Department of Ecology focuses on preventing and addressing water pollution in forested areas. The specialist will conduct field evaluations, provide technical consultation, and recommend enforcement actions to protect water quality in the Olympic Region of Washington state.

Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the public, Tribes, and state agencies to ensure forestry activities comply with water quality regulations.

• Evaluate timber harvest practices and their impacts according to the Forest Practices Act.

• Conduct on-site visits and field evaluations in areas with water quality concerns.
,
• Provide scientific and technical consultation to agencies and landowners on environmental impacts of forest practices.
,
• Recommend enforcement actions to ensure compliance with the Forest Practices Act and water quality laws.
,
• Communicate effectively with community members, agencies, and local governments to foster working relationships.

Requirements
• A total of nine (9) years of experience and/or education in hydrogeology, forest science, environmental analysis, or environmental planning.

• Education in forestry, biology, fisheries, hydrology, environmental sciences, or related fields.
,
• Must obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience in environmental analysis or control.

• Knowledge of water quality laws and regulations.
