Job Description

The University of Vermont seeks a Flood Resilience Educator to enhance municipal flood resilience through outreach and education on watershed management and public policy. Responsibilities include developing educational programs for community leaders and the public, addressing flood resilience strategies, and providing information on financial support for environmental disasters. Candidates should have a relevant bachelor's degree, experience in outreach programs, and strong communication skills.
Job Title: Flood Resilience Educator

This position promotes enhanced municipal flood resilience by providing outreach and education on science-based watershed management and public policy supporting flood resilience.

Working closely with The Nature Conservancy and other partner organizations, the flood resilience educator will develop and deliver educational programs and tools that help community leaders and the public understand and effectively prepare for and respond to the impacts of climate change on communities within the Lake Champlain basin and Vermont.
Main Responsibilities:
• Develop and deliver educational programs and tools to enhance knowledge and understanding of community flood resilience among municipal leaders and the general public.
• Help municipal leaders understand and address key aspects of flood resilience, including protecting river corridor/river-floodplain systems and implementing planning techniques to protect communities from flooding and other weather-related hazards.
• Provide information on opportunities for financial support following floods or other environmental disasters and co-benefits of river-floodplain ecosystems.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of education and experience in public administration, natural resources, environmental sciences, community development, community planning, or a field related to flood resilience.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and two years relevant experience.
• Strong writing and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person and virtually to individuals and larger groups.
• Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating outreach programs.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with diverse constituencies.
• Familiarity with various web-based tools and programs, including the Microsoft program suite.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Experience with local municipal governance and climate resilience and community engagement.
• Experience seeking, applying for, and reporting on competitive grants.
