About the position

The Fleet Technician B position at American Electric Power involves performing maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles and specialized equipment. The role requires troubleshooting, inspecting, and repairing various systems including hydraulic, heating, ventilation, steering, braking, and transmission systems. The technician will work on sedans, light, medium, and heavy trucks, trailers, and other heavy work equipment, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
• Service and repair boom/pedestal assemblies of specialized equipment, including troubleshooting and inspecting various components.

• Service and repair hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and replacing pumps, motors, and valves.
,
• Service and repair heating and ventilation systems, including diagnosing A/C unit problems and conducting pressure tests.
,
• Troubleshoot and repair winch assemblies.
,
• Service and repair the steering system of Company vehicles, including power steering pumps and manual gearboxes.
,
• Service and repair air brake systems, including compressors and control valves.
,
• Service and repair hydraulic and electric braking systems, including master cylinders and antilock brake systems.
,
• Inspect and service differentials, power dividers, and transmission assemblies of Company vehicles.

Requirements
• Experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, particularly with specialized equipment.

• Knowledge of hydraulic systems and their components.
,
• Familiarity with heating and ventilation systems, including A/C units.
,
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair various vehicle systems, including steering and braking systems.
,
• Understanding of vehicle transmission assemblies and their maintenance.

Nice-to-haves
• Certification in automotive service technology or related field.

• Experience with heavy equipment maintenance.
