Job Description
Clayton Homes is seeking a Field Sustainability Specialist in Maryville, TN, to advance sustainability in the homebuilding industry. The role involves conducting ISO 14001 internal assessments, site visits to facilities, and supporting strategic sustainability initiatives. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree, 3-5 years of related experience, and a passion for environmental sustainability. The position requires frequent travel and strong interpersonal skills.

Position Summary: As leaders in offsite home construction and building components manufacturing, Clayton is uniquely positioned to help advance sustainability in the homebuilding industry. The Field Sustainability Specialist will have the opportunity to support the expansion and implementation of Clayton’s sustainability vision. This position will help support a range of efforts such as operational waste reduction and energy efficiency by conducting annual site visits to Clayton Home Building Group’s facilities across the country. The Field Sustainability Specialist will play an important role in the implementation of Clayton’s sustainability initiatives by carrying out assessments at each facility. These assessments will review the environmental management systems (ISO 14001) in place at each facility, ensuring continuous improvement in our commitment to sustainability.
Duties / Responsibilities:
Conduct ISO 14001 Internal Assessments
• Documentation and Data
• Review all aspects of each facility’s Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) to include documentation, data, and trends
• Site Visits
• Conduct structured field walks at each facility
• Engage with program team members (EHS Managers and Coordinators) and facility leadership
• Review processes and practices on site (SOPs)
• Discuss opportunities for improvement and address corrective actions
Develop and maintain key program metrics
• Help compile data and metrics across applicable HBG facilities
• Assist in the creation of dashboards to inform Team Members and leadership on trends
Support Strategic Sustainability Initiatives
• Provide support on strategic projects and initiatives, to include regional waste reduction and recycling opportunities
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s (4 year) degree
• 3-5 years in related experience
• Detail-Oriented and strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to travel frequently
• Working knowledge of environmental science
• Experienced in conducting audits and reviewing analytics
• Passionate about the environment and sustainability
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance and sustainability a plus
• Experience with ISO programs and certifications a plus (additional training will be provided)
Physical Demands:
• Must be able to consistently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as telephone, calculator, copy machine, computer printer, etc.
• Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, and in person. Must be able to exchange accurate information with others.
• Work primarily involves sitting / standing.
Travel Requirements:
• 50% Overnight Travel within continental US
