Job Description

Environmental Service Laboratories, Inc. is seeking a Field Tech-Lab Tech in Indiana, PA. The role involves traveling to collect environmental samples, performing on-site analysis, and adhering to quality standards. Candidates should have strong communication skills, basic PC skills, and the ability to work independently in various field conditions. Incorporated in 1988, Environmental Service Laboratories, Inc. (ESL) is an environmental testing laboratory that provides its clientele with a comprehensive range of analytical testing and field sampling services. ESLs vision is to be recognized as a leader in achieving technical excellence and to be its customer’s best resource. ESLs customers include natural gas drilling companies, industrial facilities, municipalities, engineering firms, local/state/federal government, and the general public. ESL is accredited to test drinking water, wastewater, soil, solid materials and natural gas.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Field Tech-Lab Tech you will travel to the field to pick up and/or obtain client samples for analysis in the laboratory. Travel to client-owned laboratories and provides on-site lab analysis as needed. Follow specific instructions pertaining to the type of sample being collected and may involve aseptic techniques, client interviews, and/or digital photography. Perform analytical testing using associated techniques on environmental samples. Apply quality principles and adheres to the laboratory's quality policy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Follow sampling schedule provided by Supervisor.
• Travel to pick up and/or collect client samples for analysis.
• Follow specific instructions pertaining to the type of sample being collected -surface water, groundwater, soil, wastewater, or drinking water.
• Perform analysis of samples in the field including, but not limited to, pH, combustible gas index readings and flow readings.
• Prepare bottleware orders including appropriate preservatives, labels, and packaging.
• Take digital photographs, GPS coordinates, and detailed field notes.
• Perform analytical testing and associated techniques using laboratory instrumentation.
• Collect samples from well pads, landowner properties, and remediation sites.
• Assess project progress by communicating and interacting with Supervisor and Laboratory Director.
• Complete appropriate related paperwork and schedule sampling appointments via phone.
• Comply with safety rules and regulations to include determining proper handling procedures of sample.
• Perform additional projects as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Ability to perform under pressure and withstand weather and field conditions. Must have ability to effectively verbally communicate with clients and the public. Must obtain acceptable results for an Initial Demonstration of Capability. Basic PC skills, including Windows, Excel, Word and Outlook, including strong attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication and effective listening skills. Ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of individuals at all levels of the organization. Ability to work independently with strong initiative and focus. While performing duties of job, incumbent is required to stand; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, bend and/or twist; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift, push or carry a minimum of 50 lbs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a good driving record. Must have strong work ethic and attention to detail, effective communication skills, and be able to work independently or part of a team. Degree in the science or environmental field is preferred but not required. Some laboratory experience preferred.

Your employment with the Company will be “at will,” meaning that either you or the Company may terminate your employment at any time and for any reason, with or without cause. Any contrary representations that may have been made to you are superseded by this letter agreement. This is full and complete agreement between you and the Company on this term. Although you job duties, title, compensation and benefits, as well as the Company’s personnel policies and procedures, may change from time to time, the “at will” nature of your employment may only be changed in an express written agreement signed by you and a duly authorized officer of the Company (other than you).
