Job Description

PACE University is seeking an Executive Director for the Pace Energy and Climate Center in White Plains, NY. The role involves overseeing strategic direction, administration, and funding of the Center, engaging in energy policy development, and enhancing visibility at various levels. The Executive Director will also supervise staff and students, collaborate with the law school community, and may teach courses. Summary: The Pace Energy and Climate Center is seeking an Executive Director to head its unique program as an energy teaching and policy center giving students hands on experience in handling current significant energy challenges and opportunities. The Center’s mission is to protect the earth’s environment and mitigate climate change through solutions that transform the ways society supplies and consumes energy, to be a thought leader in the development of such solutions, and to educate our law students with respect to the way forward in addressing climate change.

The Executive Director is involved as a part of the environmental law program at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law, which is ranked as the top environmental law program in the country. The Executive Director will also serve as the central point of contact between the Center and the broader university. The position will be based at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law campus in White Plains, New York. The Executive Director will report directly to the Law School Dean.

Duties:
• The Executive Director is responsible for the Center’s strategic direction, administration, and funding.
• The Executive Director is responsible for the recruitment and supervision of the Center’s professional and support staff and students.
• The Executive Director is responsible for leading the Center’s involvement in energy proceedings, clean energy networks, and energy policy development in New York and throughout the Northeast. This includes matters before state agencies involving energy efficiency, renewable energy, and policies affecting grid modernization.
• The Executive Director is responsible for engaging in regional efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change by promoting energy efficiency and clean energy use.
• The Executive Director is responsible for engaging in regional and local efforts to promote increased penetration of energy efficiency and clean energy.
• The Executive Director is responsible for enhancing the Center’s visibility and recognition at the international, national, regional, state, and local levels by representing the Center at energy conferences.
• The Executive Director is responsible for securing the necessary funding to sustain the Center’s activities, in collaboration with the school’s development and government relations teams.
• The Executive Director is responsible for budgeting for grants administration for both revenue and expense.
• The Executive Director interacts with the law school community including the school’s other environmental law centers, may teach energy law courses, and works closely with the environmental law faculty and staff.
• The Executive Director may be called upon to perform such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Dean.

The Executive Director position allows for the possibility to apply for appointment as a non-tenure track member of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law faculty as a “Professor of Law for Designated Project or Service.”

Over its 40+ year history, the Center has established itself as a significant contributor to energy and climate change policy development. The Executive Director will have the opportunity to help shape the future direction of the Center in the fields of energy and climate change in accordance with his or her interests and experience. The Executive Director will be encouraged to collaborate with the other colleges of the University.

The Center is also interested in candidates with experience participating in the regulatory processes in energy and energy-related environmental policy decision making, such as in utility rate cases and proceedings of an energy or energy-related regulatory body, and with experience on climate change.

Qualifications: Demonstrated executive leadership skills, including administration, management, and finance are essential, as is knowledge of the operation of energy markets and an understanding of energy/environmental economics and climate change policy. The successful applicant must have a law degree with interest in teaching in the areas of climate change and energy regulation law. Successful experience in teaching law students is preferred.
