Executive Director

The Center for an Ecology-Based Economy is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization in addressing climate issues through advocacy, education, and ecological solutions. The role includes managing staff, overseeing operations, and representing the organization at events. This full-time position is based in Norway, Maine, with a salary range of $72,500 to $92,500. The successful candidate will help explore distributed leadership during a transition period.
The Center for an Ecology-Based Economy’s mission is to engage the community in addressing the climate emergency through advocacy, education, direct action, and by implementing practical ecological solutions for a regenerative economy.

After more than 10 years of excellent leadership, CEBE’s founding Executive Director is retiring in 2025. The organization has experienced substantial growth in recent years and has a strong core staff and foundation of community support. Our staff and board are beginning to explore distributed leadership models during this transition period. We anticipate the successful candidate supporting the team as we explore transitioning to a distributed leadership model. This may include the possibility of moving some leadership responsibilities listed in this description to a subset of staff in the next several years.

The Center for an Ecology-Based Economy seeks a candidate who is passionate about the organization’s mission and will work collaboratively with our tight-knit and dedicated team. The Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for executing CEBE’s mission. Working as a collaborative leader, the Director is responsible for managing CEBE’s staff and general administration of the organization, including overseeing communications, creating and managing budgets, and securing funding to achieve the organization’s strategic goals.

As spokesperson for the organization, the Director represents CEBE at regional conferences and events, participates in coalitions and networks, and grants interviews for the media as needed. The Director reports to the Board of Stewards.

This is a full-time (35+hours/week) salaried position based in Norway, Maine. The salary range for this position is $72,500-92,500, commensurate with experience.
