About the position

As an Environmental Sustainability Scientist at Houston Methodist Academic Institute, you will play a crucial role in advancing healthcare practices that prioritize sustainability and environmental stewardship. Your primary responsibility will be to investigate the relationship between sustainable resource utilization within a healthcare system and its impact on patient health and the broader community. This position requires you to independently develop and lead innovative scientific research initiatives that analyze and evaluate the effects of sustainable resource use on hospital operations, patient health outcomes, and community well-being. You will engage in life cycle analysis, economic impact studies, health outcomes research, and other related topics to quantify and mitigate environmental impact. In your capacity as a principal investigator, you will serve as the primary scientific faculty member and research leader for the Office of Sustainability. This involves guiding the strategic direction of research initiatives and collaborating with internal principal investigators and academic physicians to connect various disciplines and concurrent research efforts. Additionally, you will act as a scientific liaison for the Center for Health & Nature, a joint initiative involving Houston Methodist, Texas A&M, Texan by Nature, the City of Houston, the State of Texas, and federal institutions. Your work will contribute significantly to the mission of promoting sustainable healthcare practices and improving health outcomes for patients and the community. The role also includes coordinating and providing technical direction to research staff, designing and adapting equipment for experiments, publishing findings in high-impact journals, and managing grant portfolios. You will be expected to analyze data, define problems, and develop solutions as dictated by your research projects. Your ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including patients, physicians, and co-workers, will be essential in fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
