Job Description

Truist Financial is seeking an Environmental and Climate Program Reporting Analyst to lead the calculation of Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions. The role involves collaboration with internal and external partners, managing data quality, and preparing GHG information for reporting. The position requires being office-centric four days a week in Charlotte, Atlanta, or Richmond, VA, and involves continuous improvement and validation processes for accurate emissions calculations.
About the position

This position leads the calculation of Truist's Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, excluding Category 15 Financed Emissions. The role involves leading both internal and external partners in obtaining necessary data, conducting and overseeing the calculations, obtaining third-party verification, completing internal approvals and processes, managing risk, and implementing continuous improvement throughout all phases of the process. The position can be located in one of the office locations (Charlotte, Atlanta, or Richmond, VA) and will require being office-centric four days a week. The essential duties include leading the calculation of Truist's Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, particularly focusing on Categories 1 (Purchased Goods & Services), 2 (Capital Goods), 3 (Fuel and Energy-related Emissions), 5 (Waste in Operations), 6 (Business Travel), 7 (Employee Commuting), and 8 (Upstream Leased Assets). The role requires collaboration with various internal partners such as Sourcing, Corporate Real Estate & Workplace, Corporate Travel, Human Resources, and the ESG Data Team to identify and leverage internal and external data sources for accurate calculations of Scope 3 emissions. Additionally, the position drives continuous improvement in data completeness, quality, processes, and integration/automation across partners. It involves preparing Scope 3 GHG information for internal and external reporting needs, managing internal risk and validation processes, and maintaining documentation of all Scope 3 GHG calculation processes for review. The role also supports collaborative efforts to reduce Scope 3 emissions by working with internal and external partners to identify GHG reduction opportunities and influence sourcing processes and KPIs. Furthermore, it includes conducting due diligence on carbon offset strategies that can help reduce Scope 3 emissions while ensuring accurate calculations.

Responsibilities
• Lead internal and external partners in calculating Truist's Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, especially Categories 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8.

• Collaborate with internal partners to identify and leverage internal and external data sources to calculate Scope 3 emissions.
,
• Drive continuous improvement of data completeness, data quality, processes, and integration/automation across partners.
,
• Prepare Scope 3 GHG information for internal and external reporting needs, including ESG/CSR reporting, CDP, TCFD, and other surveys.
,
• Manage internal risk, controls, and validation processes and third-party verification.
,
• Prepare and maintain documentation of all Scope 3 GHG calculation processes for internal and external review.
,
• Support collaborative efforts to reduce Scope 3 emissions by working with internal and external partners to identify GHG reduction opportunities.
,
• Conduct due diligence on carbon offset strategies that can reduce Scope 3 emissions.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
,
• 2+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
,
• Solid understanding of greenhouse gas calculation methodologies and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
,
• Proven abilities in Excel.
,
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret and explain complex information to a range of audiences.
,
• Ability to influence others to adopt a new perspective and handle interpersonal issues with tact and diplomacy.
,
• Ability to exercise judgment and sophisticated skills in solving complex technical, operational, and organizational challenges.

Nice-to-haves
• Knowledge of landscape of voluntary GHG disclosure standards and the expectation of mandatory GHG disclosures in the future.

• Previous experience in banking, with specific emphasis on reporting, business intelligence, systems, technology, data, risk, compliance or related areas.
,
• Relevant professional or technical certifications.
,
• Experience with integrating data into and leveraging enterprise data systems.
,
• Experience with other programming languages and tools (e.g., Python, SQL, SAS, Qlik, Tableau).
