Job Description

SCS Engineers is hiring an Environmental Technician in Madison, WI, to assist project managers with tasks related to solid waste, electric utility, and environmental management. The role involves fieldwork (80% of the time) and requires compliance with regulations, data collection, and reporting. Candidates should have basic computer skills, a willingness to complete HAZWOPER training, and the ability to work independently. Travel is expected, and a valid driver's license is required.
SCS is looking for a Technician to assist project managers in various project types, including solid waste, electric utility, and environmental management. This individual should follow regulatory requirements, standard operating procedures, and SCS protocols, exercise independent judgement and be able to complete tasks and projects with direction from management and provided training. Conduct assignments in an office setting and perform field work. This individual will be in the field at least 80% of the time with local or overnight travel, and this individual will report to our Madison, Wisconsin office on-site when not traveling.

How You Can Make An Impact
• Perform construction observation and documentation, including construction material sample collection, laboratory data management, and surveying, while ensuring compliance with construction documents. Travel is expected.
• Prepare and submit daily field logs reporting data collected, field observations, actions taken, and recommended actions to be taken.

• Conduct sampling and/or monitoring of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, air, geosynthetics, landfill gas, and leachate.
• Coordinate work with contractors, subcontractors, and laboratories to ensure seamless project execution.
• Maintain sampling and monitoring equipment, including regular maintenance, inventory, troubleshooting, and repairs.
• Prepare documentation reports for construction activities observed, health & safety plans, and other work documents.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
• Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to utilize phone/tablet applications to record data efficiently.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Basic health and safety knowledge.
• Completion of (or willingness to complete) a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training.
• High attention to detail and solid judgment.
• Ability to work independently and problem-solve effectively.
• Ability to read blueprints accurately.
• Capability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and repair field equipment.

Qualifications
• Associates Degree preferred
• Experience with mechanical systems and/or construction preferred
• Ability to use basic hand tools and lift/carry up to 50 pounds required
• Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing required
• Must be able to travel overnight and work weekends, if necessary

Pay Range

USD $18.00 - USD $28.00 /Hr.
