Onesource Ehs is seeking an Environmental Technician in Plaquemine, LA, responsible for compliance with environmental regulations through waste management, inspections, and reporting. Key duties include waste profiling, conducting inspections, maintaining records, coordinating shipments, and preparing environmental reports. The technician will also assist in safety training, emergency response, and environmental audits. A solid understanding of hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling is essential for this role.
About the position

The Environmental Technician is a crucial role focused on ensuring compliance with environmental regulations through effective waste management, inspections, and environmental reporting. This position requires a solid understanding of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling, as well as the ability to track inventory and ensure proper disposal and shipping. The technician will monitor stormwater and discharge, playing a vital part in maintaining environmental standards and protecting public health and safety. In this role, the Environmental Technician will be responsible for waste profiling, which involves identifying and classifying waste streams to determine the appropriate disposal or recycling methods. Regular waste inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including proper labeling, storage, and documentation. The technician will also maintain accurate records of waste generated, stored, and disposed of, ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal regulations. Coordination of shipments for hazardous and non-hazardous waste will be essential, working closely with approved vendors to comply with shipping regulations. Environmental reporting is another key responsibility, where the technician will prepare, review, and sign hazardous and non-hazardous waste manifests, ensuring accuracy and compliance with environmental standards. The role includes collecting and compiling data for solid and hazardous waste reporting, as well as preparing and submitting discharge monitoring reports to ensure that water discharge from the facility meets regulatory requirements. Compliance inspections will be conducted regularly, including SPCC inspections to ensure spill prevention controls are operational and SWPPP inspections to prevent pollutants from contaminating stormwater runoff. The technician will assist with environmental audits, providing necessary records and compliance reports. Additionally, the role involves sampling and monitoring activities, such as conducting routine stormwater sampling and collecting air and water quality samples to support environmental monitoring programs. Safety and compliance training is a critical aspect of this position, where the technician will participate in training sessions on environmental regulations and waste handling to stay updated on current practices. The technician will also ensure adherence to all applicable environmental regulations, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Clean Water Act (CWA). In emergency situations, the technician will participate in spill response efforts, coordinating with emergency response teams and ensuring that containment measures are effectively implemented. Documentation and follow-up after incidents will also be part of the responsibilities, ensuring that all corrective actions are tracked and resolved.

Responsibilities
• Identify and classify hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams for proper disposal or recycling.

• Arrange for the transportation and proper disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, working with approved vendors to ensure compliance with shipping regulations.

• Prepare, review, and sign hazardous and non-hazardous waste manifests for shipments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with environmental standards.

• Collect and compile data for solid and hazardous waste reporting, ensuring timely and accurate submission to regulatory agencies.

• Prepare and submit discharge monitoring reports, ensuring water discharge from the facility meets all regulatory requirements.

• Conduct regular inspections under the Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan, ensuring that spill prevention controls are in place and operational.

• Perform inspections in compliance with the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) to prevent pollutants from contaminating stormwater runoff.

• Assist with environmental audits, providing records, documentation, and compliance reports as necessary.
,
• Conduct routine stormwater sampling for analysis, ensuring results comply with environmental standards.
,
• Collect samples for air and water quality testing to support environmental monitoring programs.
,
• Participate in training sessions on environmental regulations, waste handling, and safety procedures to stay updated on current practices.
,
• Ensure adherence to all applicable environmental regulations, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and others.

• Participate in and lead response efforts for spills or other environmental incidents, coordinating with emergency response teams and ensuring that containment measures are in place.
,
• Complete reports and documentation following spills or incidents, ensuring that all corrective actions are tracked and resolved.

Requirements
• 5 years of experience in environmental compliance, waste management, and environmental sampling.
,
• In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements (EPA, RCRA, etc.).
,
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills developed over years of practice.
,
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
,
• Certification or training in hazardous waste operations, stormwater management, and other environmental compliance areas preferred.
