Job Description
The State of North Carolina is hiring a temporary Environmental Technician I in Beaufort, NC. The role involves collecting biological and fisheries data, operating boats and equipment, and communicating with the public. This position does not offer benefits and requires qualified applicants to meet specific skills and experience criteria. The hourly pay is $16.50, and the job entails frequent travel, including overnight trips.

Note: Permanent and time-limited NC State Government employees must separate from their permanent or time-limited position in order to work in a temporary position. All temporaries are limited to one NC State Government temporary assignment at a time.

This temporary position is located in Washington, NC - Beaufort County.
Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $16.50 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).
This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Environmental Quality. This position is located at 943 Washington Square Mall, Washington, NC 27889.
This position will be responsible for collecting biological data (i.e., length, weight, species, etc.) and fisheries effort data, recording and proofing data collected by the observer program. Collecting of commercial and recreation catch and bycatch data, protected species interactions, and fishing gear specifications. Using the appropriate protocols to handle sea turtles and other protected species. Communicating effectively with fishermen and other members of the public. Operating and maintaining boats, trucks, trailers, and sampling equipment. Trailering and operating boats on a regular basis, possibly in inclement weather. Traveling frequently for day trips, including overnight travel to obtain observer coverage, which includes occasional weekend work. Working both as a member of a dynamic team and independently to include independently scheduling trips with fishermen.NOTE: Qualified applicants must meet and CLEARLY reflect on their application training and experience and all knowledge, skills, abilities, and any experience or competencies specified in the posting and/or supplemental question(s) to be considered. • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of the environmental field to which assigned.
• Working knowledge of the state and/or federal rules and regulations pertaining to the area of assignment.
• Working knowledge of the tools, equipment, procedures and methods necessary to carry out assigned functions.
• Ability to prepare written reports.
• Ability to effectively communicate in written and oral form.
• Ability to handle with tact and consistency the diversity of public contacts demanded by work.
