About the position
The Pantex Plant, the nation's primary nuclear weapons manufacturing facility, is seeking a qualified Environmental Sustainability Scientist to join its award-winning Environmental Compliance Department. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and permits, and it requires a combination of training, professional experience, and technical writing skills in various areas of environmental compliance. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring environmental media, including drinking water, wastewater, air quality, and stormwater, as well as managing environmental management systems. As a team member in the Environmental Compliance Department, the Environmental Sustainability Scientist will provide specialized knowledge and experience to support the development of compliance strategies and written reports. This includes ensuring strict adherence to Department of Energy (DOE) Orders and Federal and State regulations. The role involves cross-training and conducting field walk-downs with other environmental professionals to support technical recommendations across various environmental science specialties. The candidate will utilize their professional experience and education to lead or support subject matter experts, ensuring that monitoring, analysis, and data recording meet quality objectives. Additionally, the position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office applications to facilitate effective communication and reporting. The Environmental Sustainability Scientist will also support the National Environmental Policy Act review of projects to ensure compliance with Pantex Plant goals and regulations. Other duties may be assigned as necessary, contributing to the overall mission of national and global security.
Responsibilities
• Monitor environmental media including drinking water, wastewater, air quality, and stormwater.

• Support the development of compliance strategies and written reports for environmental regulations.

• Ensure compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) Orders and Federal and State regulations.

• Conduct field walk-downs with other environmental professionals to support technical recommendations.

• Lead or support subject matter experts in environmental science specialties.

• Utilize Microsoft Office software for stakeholder communications and reporting.

• Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Master of Science degree in an environmental, science, or engineering related discipline with at least one year of supporting environmental compliance experience OR a Bachelor of Science degree with at least two years of supporting experience.

• 4 to 7 years of environmental compliance related experience in areas such as sustainability, pollution prevention, and environmental monitoring.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Technical writing ability in environmental compliance.

• Master of Science degree with at least three years of specialized environmental experience.
