Job Description
Tehachapi Cement LLC is hiring an Environmental Specialist for its Tehachapi, CA plant. The role involves ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, conducting audits, managing emissions monitoring, and supporting waste management initiatives. Candidates should have 1-3 years of experience in an environmental role, preferably in the mining or cement industry, and a relevant bachelor's degree. The position offers a salary range of $69,000 to $83,000 and various health benefits.
Tehachapi Cement, LLC is seeking a skilled Environmental Specialist to ensure compliance with federal and state environmental regulations at our Tehachapi plant. The Environmental Specialist will oversee the implementation and adherence to environmental programs, conduct audits, manage emissions monitoring systems, and support waste management initiatives. This role requires a strong understanding of environmental regulations, technical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental performance.
Responsibilities:
• Environmental Program Compliance: Ensure all employees and contractors adhere to plant environmental programs and stay in compliance with federal and state agencies.
• Environmental Audits: Conduct environmental audits and coordinate with site personnel to prevent potential Notices of Violation (NOC/NOV) conditions, resolving corrective and preventative actions promptly and professionally.
• Emissions Monitoring Systems: Support the Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) compliance to ensure 90% or higher data availability for compliance reporting, including EKAPCD/EPA requirements, hardware, software, and RATA.
• Visible Emissions Observations: Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly visible emissions observations (VEOs) of stacks and drop points, including Method 9 and 22.
• Data Requests and Gathering: Assist in completing data requests for regulatory agencies and parent company UNACEM in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring all data is double-checked with sufficient backup documentation.
• Reporting: Timely and accurately complete all necessary regular and ad hoc reports to maintain compliance with permit requirements.
• Product/Service Management: Ensure parts and services are entered into SAP and create work notifications for maintenance to maintain compliance.
• Quarterly Inspections: Conduct SWPPP and SPCC inspections to show compliance with state and federal requirements.
• Waste Management: Support waste management efforts by coordinating with departments and vendors for pickups and maintaining accurate records.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Experience: 1 to 3 years of experience in an environmental or related role within the mining industry.
• Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with environmental compliance in a mining or cement plant environment.
• Technical Expertise: Experience with MKS 2000, SOPAS, Cemlink 6, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SAP, ABB/Pi, Delta Cal, Loggernet, and small hand tools.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field (preferably Environmental Engineering, Science, or related).
• Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of environmental regulations and the ability to ensure compliance in daily operations.
