Eocene Environmental Group, Inc. is hiring an Environmental Specialist I in West Des Moines, IA. This full-time role involves managing environmental projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, and conducting site assessments. Candidates need a Bachelor's in Environmental Science and 1-2 years of experience. The position requires tracking project timelines, preparing technical reports, and may involve occasional travel. Knowledge of NEPA, ESA, and FCC processes is essential.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Environmental Specialist I is responsible for participating in a wide range of projects ranging from environmental due diligence to regulatory compliance. These responsibilities will require an understanding of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA/Section 106), Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), and FCC NPA/NHPA Categorical Exclusions.

• Closely track time and utilization to ensure projects are delivered on-time and within budget and in general support of company success and reputation
• Manage and actively track a large volume of projects with varying milestones and scopes of work
• Prepare deliverables with all supporting documentation
• Conduct site reconnaissance and field assessments to gather environmental and regulatory data
• Perform independent research and stakeholder interviews to support environmental compliance and permitting activities
• Prepare high-quality technical reports, assessments, and documentation related to environmental and regulatory findings
• Support projects involving telecommunications infrastructure by applying knowledge of FCC regulatory processes
• Contribute to evaluations of potential impacts to endangered species and habitats, applying knowledge of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and related environmental regulations
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings
• Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s and Eocene Environmental Group’s culture of safety and employee ownership
• Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or similar field. In the absence of a degree, equivalent combination of education, training, or experience
• 1-2 years’ experience in the environmental consulting field
• Must be capable of working while wearing a negative pressure respirator without restriction
• Proficient with the Microsoft Office products, including Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Strong work ethic, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and time management skills
• Excellent technical writing skills
• Be organized and detail oriented
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Experience with building systems and mapping software
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Prior experience with NEPA and Section 106 reporting
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (if not held, must be able and willing to obtain)
• Knowledge of telecommunications FCC regulatory processes
• Knowledge of endangered species/habitat assessments and the Endangered Species Act (ESA)
