About the position
The Environmental Specialist I position within the Pollution Control section of the Capital Project Planning, Impact Fee, and Program Management Division is responsible for planning and implementing pollution prevention education and outreach initiatives. This role involves engaging with the community through event planning and execution, content creation, and delivering presentations to diverse audiences, including school-age children and community groups. The specialist will conduct community events, create educational materials, and lead field trips, ensuring that the information presented is both understandable and relatable while promoting behavioral changes regarding environmental issues. In addition to community engagement, the Environmental Specialist I will provide technical assistance concerning environmental regulations and pollution control measures. This includes meeting with property owners, contractors, and the public to discuss environmental concerns and recommend solutions. The role also requires coordination of various environmental activities related to pollution control, conservation, and waterway management, serving as a point of contact for residents regarding environmental issues. The specialist will prepare reports, executive summaries, and presentations for County Commissioners and other boards, and will be involved in the development of natural resource management policies. Data analysis is a key component of this role, as the specialist will collect and analyze geographic data, monitor trends, and prepare reports to support decision-making processes. The position also involves communication with various stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and community organizations, to coordinate work activities and resolve issues. Additional responsibilities may include monitoring inventory, investigating environmental complaints, and performing water sampling as needed.

• Compile and monitor administrative and statistical data.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in an Environmental field required.

• One (1) year of previous experience preferred.
,
• Candidates without a related degree should possess an additional four (4) years of related experience.

• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is preferred.
