Position Summary
In this role, the successful candidate will manage the full spectrum of regulatory environmental requirements, including federal, state, and local regulations with emphasis on air, water, waste, and chemical management, with a fundamental understanding of environmental management systems. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for identifying environmental requirements, risks and opportunities associated with ongoing physical, material and personnel changes to facility operations. The successful candidate will interact with facility personnel, front line operators, company management, legal counsel, regulatory agency personnel, and other relevant stakeholders to communicate environmental requirements, complete required compliance tasks, identify compliance opportunities, act as a technical resource, and coordinate on key initiatives.
The successful incumbent will be responsible for:
Environmental Compliance Management. Regulatory Compliance Reporting. Environmental Compliance Audits and Management of Change. Support Key Environmental Initiatives and Project Delivery.
The position will be responsible for oversight of environmental compliance at Apogee’s Architectural Glass Segment in Owatonna, MN; and Large Scale Optical Segment Faribault, MN and McCook, IL locations, along with other locations and corporate initiatives as assigned.
Key Job Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance Management. Complete required compliance tasks in accordance with regulatory requirements and deadlines. Maintain environmental tracking systems.
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements that apply to Apogee businesses.
• Complete inspections, plan reviews and updates, data collection, and data management to meet regulatory requirements and deadlines.
• Update and manage environmental tracking systems including assignment and direction of staff.
• Ensure project records are complete and organized to demonstrate compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.
• Identify, prioritize and implement new requirements due to emerging regulations, company protocols or process improvement opportunities.
• Coordinate reviews and input from plant managers and business unit leaders.
Regulatory Compliance Reporting. Support site compliance reporting requirements.
• Assemble pertinent data on an ongoing basis, track compliance, and evaluate applicable reporting requirements.
• Assess implications of facility changes on recordkeeping and reporting requirements and modify systems as needed.
• Accurately and comprehensively complete regulatory reporting requirements within established timelines and deadlines.
• Work with other Apogee business unit environmental staff to share knowledge and ensure common approach to reporting methodologies.
Environmental Compliance Audits and Change Management. Support audits and manage change.
• Conduct and support internal environmental compliance audits, third party environmental compliance audits and regulatory agency compliance audits.
• Support tracking and completion of proper corrective actions to address audit findings.
• Assist with tracking and reporting of leading metrics to evaluate compliance performance.
Support Key Environmental Initiatives and Project Delivery.
• Implement new permit requirements including sustainable data collection, recordkeeping and reporting efforts.
• Define and implement necessary training for facility operations personnel on environmental issues and regulations, including company policies.
• Assist in Environmental Management System development and deployment across all Apogee business units.
• Provide support and specialized expertise to inform internal project teams including development, engineering, construction, and operations.
Education/Skills
• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field; OR equivalent experience.
Experience
• From 5 to 7 years’ experience in environmental compliance associated with industrial activities.
• Experience working with a range of federal and state regulatory programs including, but not limited to, air permitting and compliance, stormwater and wastewater permitting, RCRA waste management, EPCRA reporting and SPCC plan management.
• Demonstrated environmental project management experience.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); ability to communicate professionally with appropriate detail to front line staff and business leaders.
• Must be willing to travel as needed to support needs of sites and projects.
Travel Requirements
• Travel anticipated approximately 15-25%
Pay Range
• $75,000 - $110,000
