Job Description
The Environmental Specialist role at Advantage Technical in Bloomington, IN involves providing technical support, managing compliance issues, overseeing construction activities, and liaising with regulatory agencies. Responsibilities include understanding site features and permits, monitoring facility capacity, managing technical contracts, and developing a five-year schedule for the facility. A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or equivalent experience is required. The position offers competitive pay and benefits.
You will provide technical support for the facilities they are assigned to. This includes identifying and assisting in the resolution of compliance issues, managing technical consultants, serving as a technical liaison with regulatory agencies, preparing and managing permits, and overseeing the technical aspects of construction activities from the preparation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to the certification of the completed work.
Outstanding pay, a 10% annual bonus and a work car.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or similar industry experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop a Comprehensive Understanding of the Site:
• Familiarize yourself with the physical features of the site, including stormwater lines, sanitary sewer lines, discharge points, underground storage tanks (USTs), zoning regulations, and other relevant details.
Understand Site Permits:
• Gain a thorough understanding of the site's permits, which include groundwater, surface water, solid waste, and air permits. Perform and coordinate the required compliance inspections and reporting as stipulated by these permits.
Build Relationships with Regulatory Agencies:
• Establish and maintain a good rapport with the regulatory agencies that oversee the site.
Monitor Facility Capacity:
• Keep the site manager informed about the facility's capacity (including air space, throughput, etc.) and provide updates on all significant engineering and environmental activities occurring on-site.
Identify and Resolve Environmental Issues:
• Recognize any environmental issues present at the site and collaborate with the site manager and team to develop solutions. Manage the implementation of these environmental solutions under the guidance of the site manager. 6.
Manage Technical Contracts:
• As needed, prepare Requests for Proposals (RFPs), conduct bid evaluations, and serve as the project manager for technical contracts. Your project management responsibilities will include administering the contract, as well as managing the budget and schedule for the activities involved.
Develop a Five-Year Schedule:
• In coordination with the site manager, create and maintain a five-year schedule for the facility. This schedule should outline expansion or closure activities, construction projects, and key compliance initiatives.
Review Compliance Tracker Monthly:
• Review the compliance tracker program at least once per month and create action plans to ensure deadlines are met for consideration by site management.
Manage Environmental Submittals:
• Work alongside site management to ensure that environmental submittals are managed effectively, aiming for zero administrative violations (ensuring submissions are timely and complete).
Plan for Upcoming Fiscal Year Projects:
• Collaborate with the site manager to identify required projects for the upcoming fiscal year. Prepare budget inputs (cost and schedule) for technical projects, including compliance monitoring and reporting. Review these plans with the appropriate General Manager by January 1.
Conduct Regular Status Meetings for Smaller Sites:
• Meet monthly with the site manager of smaller sites, such as truck depots, through conference calls or Microsoft Teams to review the status of environmental and engineering issues.
Participate in Environmental Corrective Measures:
• Stay informed about and actively participate in the development of any necessary environmental corrective measures for your site, including those related to groundwater, surface water, solid waste, and air quality.
SKILLS: Must be proficient in Microsoft O365 (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
