Job Description
The City of Spartanburg is hiring an Environmental Services Coordinator to supervise solid waste and recycling operations. Responsibilities include directing personnel, conducting evaluations, monitoring collection routes, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Candidates should have a high school diploma and 3-5 years of supervisory experience, along with a CDL. Description
Supervises and coordinates Solid Waste/Recycling/Green Waste curbside collection methods, maintenance and operational activities for the solid waste and recycling programs.
Examples of Duties
• Supervises personnel by directing work activities, establishing work priorities, vacation requests, developing standard operations procedures for the division.
• Conducts field evaluations, coordinates with outside vendors, as well as special projects.
• Monitors collection routes and inmates.
• Complies and enforces South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) inmate work requirements.
• Sets up, pulls, updates various reports and tasks.
• Dispatches paperwork for the next day and performs data tracking.
• Tracks landfill and recycling tickets as a part of part of Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) requirements.
• Coordinates the operation of the City of Spartanburg's solid waste/green waste division.
• Supervises household garbage and green waste collections to ensure routes are complete.
• Ensures violations of environmental infractions are brought into compliance.
• Maintains records and information pertaining to solid waste/green waste program.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent with 3-5 years of supervisory experience. Must have a CDL, knowledge of the mobile 311 system (Proficient within 6 months). Physical requirements include: ability to exert up to 40-50 pounds; frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move heavy objects.
