Job Description
Toeroek Associates, Inc. is seeking Environmental Scientists for site assessments and environmental sampling related to wildfire recovery in California. The role involves conducting surveys, preparing reports, and implementing monitoring plans. Candidates should have a degree in environmental science or relevant experience, and HAZWOPER certification is preferred. The position requires extensive travel and offers compensation of $25.00 to $32.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.

We have an opening for several Environmental Scientists to conduct site assessments and environmental sampling as part of the wildfire recovery in California. Work schedule is anticipated to be 6-7 days per week, 10-12 hours per day, in 3-week increments. The engagement ends July 1, 2025, and extensions are possible. Toeroek will provide travel, per diem, and housing accommodations when on travel, unless staff are local to the site.
It is preferred that candidates have active 40 hour HAZWOPER training certification.
Duties Include:
• Conduct initial visual survey of roadways and infrastructure that could potentially be impacted by the debris cleanup operations. Evaluate pre-operational conditions and record with video and notes.
• Prepare Cleanup Goals Report to be utilized by the debris removal operations team to determine when the site has been adequately cleaned up post incident, to include but not be limited to:
• Determine locations for soil sampling to establish cleanup goals for the project,
• Develop cleanup goals report, with supporting documentation, and
• Determine number of confirmation samples required to assess whether each property meets established cleanup goals.
• Conduct Individual Site Assessments, for each property that has entered into the cleanup program, and prepare individual site maps including (utilizing GPS equipment or approved equal).
• Conduct Confirmation Soil Sampling, once site has been deemed to be ready and compare to cleanup goals.
• Prepare Final Site Cleanup Reports for each property.
• Prepare and implement an Air Monitoring Plan if it is determined that air monitoring is required due to the presence of asbestos (or heavy metals, or other potentially hazardous air born constituent).
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering/science preferred but not required. If no degree, 2 years of relevant experience is required.
• Experience in conducting site assessments and environmental sampling.
• Current 40 Hour HAZWOPER training certification a plus
The compensation range for this position is $25.00/hour to $32.00/hour, depending on education, experience, skills, and location.
