Job Description
The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising is seeking an Environmental Scientist 1 in Kansas City, KS. The role involves working on environmental permitting and natural resources projects, preparing documentation, and conducting fieldwork. Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently. The position requires physical site visits and may involve overnight travel.
Position: Environmental Scientist 1

In the role of Environmental Scientist 1, we will count on you to:
• Work on a wide variety of environmental permitting and natural resources projects as they relate to transportation, water resources, and other infrastructure projects.
• Work under the supervision of senior environmental scientists.
• Prepare wetland delineation reports, environmental permits, NEPA documentation, biological assessments and other environmental compliance documentation.
• Perform field work associated with the collection of natural resource data.
• Work independently on medium sized projects or assist more senior scientists on larger projects.
• Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
• Applicants must be detail-oriented, organized, effective communicators, and team players with a strong focus on quality and client service.
• Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments.
• Preference given to local candidates.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to complete field site visits and record natural resource data in conditions that include sloped terrain, thick vegetation, and inclement weather.
• Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds without assistance.
• Must have a valid Driver's License.
• Must be able to operate a motor vehicle day or night.
• Overnight travel may be required at times.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or closely related field.
• Knowledge of wetland delineation, field investigation techniques, and agency coordination requirements.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
